Course Curriculum
Three intensive days combining fiber theory with hands-on lab work. You'll build, test, and troubleshoot real fiber links in our training facility.
Fiber Optic Theory & Safety
- How optical fiber works — light propagation, single-mode vs. multi-mode
- Fiber cable construction: loose-tube, tight-buffer, ribbon, drop cables
- Industry color codes and fiber identification standards
- Fiber optic safety: laser hazards, glass fragment handling, chemical safety
- Tools of the trade — overview of essential fiber optic tools
Connectorization & Splicing Basics
- Connector types: SC, LC, FC, ST — identification and applications
- Connector cleaning and inspection procedures
- Connector termination hands-on lab
- Introduction to fusion splicing — splicer setup and operation
- Splice protection and enclosure preparation
Testing, Documentation & Certification Exam
- Optical power meter and light source operation
- Visual fault locator (VFL) — finding breaks and macro-bends
- Basic OTDR concepts — understanding a trace
- Test documentation and labeling standards
- Final practical assessment and written certification exam

PRO FIBER Certified Fiber Installer
Issued upon successful completion of the final practical and written assessment.
Certified Fiber Optic Technician

Prerequisites
- No prior fiber optic experience required
- Basic understanding of telecommunications is helpful
- Must be 18 years or older
- Physical ability to handle tools and equipment

- Fiber optic cable samples (SM, MM, drop, distribution)
- Connector termination kits (LC, SC)
- Fusion splicer stations (one per two students)
- Optical power meters and calibrated light sources
